My home….My land….I care for you….

This is the place I ever want to be….Some call it small miracle…. Some say “Serendib”. Proud to be a Sri Lankan.

We (2004 batch) had our convocation on 25th June 2009. Yes it’s a day to remember but I feel it as the last get together of our batch. Anyway it was a nice and bit tough experience :) . Bad thing we couldn’t get all our people at least for a one last pic because they were here and there busy taking their graduation pics.

Isuru (our field top) got the gold medal which was awarded for the highest GPA.  Well….he is bit worried coz he has to keep aside a piece of gold :) – just kidding.Congratulations friend. Well done.

The day we have been waiting for…….After about 30 years, we have come to an end of  stupid terrorism of  Tamil tigers. The death of  tiger leader Velupille Prabhakaran, is not yet officially announced but seems everyone got the news anyhow.

A rebellion who’s responsible for thousands of innocent civilian’s deaths,  must have a destiny like this. Hope there will be no more Tamil Eelam dreams in anyone’s mind hereafter. There’s no doubt…..we got president Mahinda Rajapaksha for the sake of our nation. Wonder why any other leader couldn’t do the right  for our motherland.

Sri Lanka Army Commander Lt. General Sarath Fonseka and Brigadier Shavendra Silva (In my personal favor, as the most performed commander) should be honored by every citizen in SL.

A united SL, never got a chance to feel it in my lifetime. So what can I say…..shouldn’t this be the most valuable day of my life?

There is no home like one you got…..coz that home belongs to you…..

.

P.S. 19.05.2009

President Mahinda Rajapakshe addressed the nation today. A new era begins. Feel so lucky to witness this historical day. This is how Nugegoda people celebrated the victory.

My younger brother badly needed to climb Sripada as he had not gone there ever. Finally he was able to( of course with my help :) ) convince our parents to organize a small trip. My main intention was to see the Sun rise (”Ira sevaya” in Sinhala) at sripada as I couldn’t see it last time due to heavy rain and the cloudy sky. This time we were lucky to see the beauty of sun rise though the sky was cloudy. The sun rise at SriPada is not like a normal sun rise. It comes up and goes down several times while rising. My guess is it’s because of uneven geography of land. Sripada is just like a heaven where we can walk through the clouds and feel the origin of rain.

According to the tradition of Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, UOM we organized a treat for the staff after graduating. I’d prefer to call it as our Goingdown since it was the last time we(our batch) got together officially. So it was much like a goingdown. Almost everyone from our batch, couple of juniors and CSE staff were there to share the moment and it was a great pleasure to see all our mates after couple of months.

They were not changed a bit :)

One of the videos we played there, showing the footprints, goes here. Cheers 04, The batch of love and unity.

The name Premasiri khemadasa meant “music”, the tireless stream of music.

Dr. Premasiri Khemadasa is a great Sinhala musician in Sri Lanka, who directed the nation to a new different era of Music. The music of Sinhala cinema is always bounded to his name, starting from “Roddie Kella” to “Agnidahaya” including many Sinhala films such as “Bambaru ewith”, “Hansawila”, “Golu hadawatha” and “Nidhanaya”. In my personnel favour, the most reflective films of his talents in music direction are “Hansawila” and “Bambaru ewith”. Some of the teledramas composed by him are “Dandubasnamanaya” by Jayantha Chandrasiri, and “Asala Kaluwara”.

Dr. Khemadasa contributed the music world not only by film composing. He introduced simphoneys (i.e Muhuda), operas (being the only Sinhala opera composer) and cantatas (the one and only buddihst cantata – Pirinivan mangalya) to the country carrying a light to the hundreds of followers. He musicized many songs like “Landune” and “Minisa” sung by Amarasiri Peiris, “Wikasitha pem” by Pandith Amaradeva.

The void made to the stream of music by his passing away……who can fill? but remainings remain…..forever !!!

University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka has become the top participant in World’s leading Google’s event “Google Summer of Code – 2008″.

There were 93 applicants from University of Moratuwa and the number of awards is 24. There’s a lead of 14 with the second leading university (Wroclaw University, Poland). The statistics can be found here.

Proud to say that 18 of award winners are from Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Altogether there are 20 award winners from Faculty of Engineering including a student from electronics department and a first year student.

Proud to be a graduate from University of Moratuwa. Specially from the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering :) This is only the begining. Many good years are yet to come. Cheers MORA !!!

We had to depart after a wonderful 4 years in university. No wonder we have handful of memories to keep forever. I think the number of trips (only department trips) is about 7 within 3 years. It’s very hard to compress such a storage but gave a little try ;)

Hit the ground is an annual cricket tournament organized by the CSE department of University of Moratuwa. Cricket matches are scheduled among the students and software companies. I got the chance to play for 04 batch in two consecutive years (2006 and 2007).

This time there was not a batch 04 team because all played for their own companies. So I played for WSO2. The unbelievable thing is we got the championship (WSO2 had never been selected even for quarter finals before:)). It was a nice experience to be in a winning team.

Every time I mention that this is our final trip, there’s another one coming up ;) but this time I named it as “The Final Walk” because this should be our final trip, at least during the university life(because we are working now:)

We went a two day trip to Nikaweratiya and Kurunegala. Climbing Athugala was a nice and tough experience. Never knew that there are such beautiful places like Magalla lake(-Nikaweratiya) in my country. Thanks Asiri, Dinesh and Malaka for their hospitality.
